The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, recently donated a total of $125,000 to Victory Housing, Inc. as part of the foundation’s Housing for Everyone grant competition. A total of $3.75 million was provided to 30 nonprofits to improve access to safe, clean and affordable housing in communities from Maine to Florida.
Victory Housing, the non-profit housing development arm of the Archdiocese of Washington, focuses on providing affordable housing and related social services to low- and moderate income senior citizens and families. The funds from the TD Charitable Foundation will help fund the adaptive re-use and substantial rehabilitation of the historic, former Hebrew Home for the Aged in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, D.C. When completed, the renovated community will provide 88 units of affordable senior rental housing, including 14 permanent supportive housing units for formerly homeless seniors, and will be part of the Spring Flats $77 million redevelopment which will also have new construction of 88 mixed-income rental housing units for families, including 58 affordable, and 10 homeownership opportunities, including three for first-time homebuyers.
“The Housing for Everyone grants bring the bank’s social impact platform, the TD Ready Commitment, to life by helping to create safe, affordable residences for those in greatest need,” said Paige Carlson-Heim, Director of the TD Charitable Foundation and Office of Charitable and Community Giving. “We recognize that having a safe, affordable place to live is essential to achieving financial security.”
“We are thrilled to receive this Housing for Everyone grant for our Spring Flats project, which will transform a rapidly gentrifying area of Washington, D.C. into an oasis of affordable housing for seniors, families and new homeownership,” said Leila Finucane, President and CEO of Victory Housing. “This TD Bank grant program helps fill a critical gap in the funding to make this redevelopment work.”
